Anbe Sivam

Nallasivam and Anbarasan are chance acquaintances but their lives are more entwined than they realise.

The film opens at the Bhubaneswar airport where two men, Nallasivam and Anbarasan, are waiting for a flight to Chennai. The flight is cancelled due to inclement weather. Anbarasan, a younger ad filmmaker, mistakes the physically disfigured, garrulous and older Nallasivam to be terrorist.

That turns out to be a false alarm. With the entire city flooded the two strangers are forced to share a room in a lodge. Anbarasan’s wedding in Chennai is only two days away and he is a worried man.

The two men undertake a road journey in order to reach a railway station from where they can catch a train to Chennai. Anbarasan’s bag is stolen on the way. With only his credit cards to fall back upon, he realizes that nobody accepts plastic money in the area.

Nallasivam uses his presence of mind to bail out the young man repeatedly. Anbarasan’s reserve begins to melt and he begins to open out with Nallasivam. As they wait at a railway station, Anbarasan asks Nallasivam about his past. The latter narrates his story.

He is a street theatre singer labour union leader. He falls in love with Bala, the daughter of a manipulative factory owner, Kandasamy, who refuses to give his workers a raise. Nalla opposes Kandasamy tooth and nail. Kandasamy tries his best to separate Nalla and Bala. The lovers decide to elope to Kerala.

On the way, they meet with a serious road accident that leaves Nalla disfigured for life. He also loses touch with Bala. Anbarasan invites Nalla to his wedding. To his utter shock, Nalla discovers that the girl that Anbarasan is about to marry is none other than Bala.

Kandasamy spots Nalla and, after signing the workers’ increment papers, he instructs his manager to eliminate him. But the contrite manager spares him and Nalla walks away after handing over the cheque to the workers’ association.
