Another case of official apathy

BELIEVE IT or not, but the fact is that 26 years may not be enough to get a government flat of Awas Vikas Parishad. One Maya Srivastava had got the registration of a flat under Economic Weaker Section Group of Awas Vikas Parishad on March 3, 1980 but the said flat is not allotted even after 26 years during which Maya Srivastava passed away.

One Maya Srivastava had got the registration of a flat under Economic Weaker Section Group of Awas Vikas Parishad on March 3, 1980 but the said flat is not allotted even after 26 years during which Maya Srivastava passed away.

Neeraj Srivastava, son of Maya Srivastava and a resident of Harha Sarai area, who filed an application under Right to Information Act with Awas Vikas Parishad here on Monday, said he had filed several applications with the concerned authorities but in vain.

“We have got no response from the concerned authorities even after the death of my mother and father”, said Neeraj, adding, “Even we have not yet got the registration fee”.

He alleged that since he refused to grease the palms of officials at Awas Vikas Parishad, he was not allotted the flat. No concerned official of Awas Vikas Parishad was available for comment due to some meeting in Lucknow today.

In another case, a retired jailor is also running from pillar to post to get the travelling allowance (TA) claim for the last two years.

Dudhnath Dwivedi, a resident of Lohta area, said he had visited Lucknow several times for official purpose but was yet to get the TA claim.

Besides, Dhirendra Singh, a resident of Lalganj area in Azamgarh district, was also seen harassed due to non-payment of arrears. Dhirendra said he was posted at Sri Krishna Geeta Rashtriya Inter College in Lalganj (Azamgarh) and got no salary from September 1994 to June 1995.

More than 200 cases of Right to Information Act were reported at the ‘Drive Against Bribe’ camp at district headquarters in Varanasi till Monday. The fortnight long camp was launched on July 3.
