Talking to media persons here on Friday, Srivastav said that 30,000 cases were pending at the consumer’s forum. Since it would be difficult to dispose of so many cases, it would kill the spirit and objective of the forum, they said.

He said that the court was set up in 1988 in the district with an aim of deciding the cases in 90 days. Although 18 years had passed, the court was not allowed a separate building, they lamented.

Responding to a question, Srivastav said that the State Government allocated a sum of Rs 27 lakh to the Gorakhpur Development Authority for construction of a building for consumer forum but even after four years, the GDA officials could not find any plot for construction of the court building.
