EVEN AS Government plans to open bids for handing over the Anpara C power project to a private company, Uttar Pradesh Vidyut Karmchari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti today served a notice on Chief Minister to protest against the privatisation move.
In the notice faxed to Mulayam Singh Yadav, the Sangharsh Samiti demanded not to hand over the project to any private party in larger public interest. It assured that the project would start generating power by October 2009 if it was allowed to be set up by the Utpadan Nigam.
In the joint notice, Samiti leaders Shailendra Dubey, AK Singh, Chandra Prakash Awasthi and others demanded the move to privatise the project be withdrawn immediately failing which, they warned, they would launch an agitation.
To begin with, the power employees said they would begin satyagraha all over the State on June 6 to attract Government attention to their demand. They warned of resorting to a prolonged battle if the privatisation process continued even thereafter.
The leaders clarified that power employees were not against private companies setting up new power houses. Anpara C, they added, was not a new project but an extension of Anpara A and B and Rs 500 crore had always been spent on creating auxiliaries for the proposed power house.
