Censor Board chief Anupam Kher was sacked by the government after barely a year in the office.

Kher said that he had no intentions of adhering to government's decision and that he preferred getting sacked than handing over his resignation letter. Anupam Kher was appointed Censor Chief by the BJP led government.

Blaming the Left for his exit, Kher said that he was being made a scapegoat for an article written by CPI(M) Harkishan Singh Surjeet in their mouthpiece People's Democracy where he had demanded that Kher be replaced and said that he was an ‘RSS man’. Kher sent a legal notice to CPM general secretary asking to withdraw his allegation or face a defamation suit.
