...freefalling design studio... was established in the year 2000.

The brains behind freefalling are the husband and wife duo, Aparna and Norden Wangdi. Both are products of the prestigious National Institute of Fashion Technology New Delhi (NIFT) but that's essentially where the similarity ends. Each infuses into freefalling design studio their contrasting yet crucial skills in the two distinct spheres of design and operations.

Armed with a post graduate degree in Garment Manufacturing Technology New Delhi from NIFT, Norden takes the wheel in matters of marketing, production and administration of the business. After having worked as a manager of production in an export house for two years in India and a three year stint in a buying house in New York, the experience on either side of the business has given him a comprehensive understanding of both.

Norden is also at the apex of the parent company Ollatin which has a wide spectrum of activities including home linen and kids products.

Aparna is the creative force behind the business charting out the course in the realm of design. Her graduating collection was picked as one of the six to be showcased from India for the Indo British partnership. She was one of the six designers chosen for the "Most promising new designers" in the NASSCOM show. She has done three textile projects in Kullu working with the weavers of the area. She has also done costumes for many theatre productions. India in all her rich diversity forms the endless source of her inspiration. Her forte lies in the unique juxtaposition of different fabrics, colors and various surface ornamentation techniques in a single garment. Her design credo Is to explore, innovate, experiment and enjoy.

For freefalling design studio the customer is their own stylist and the ultimate intelligent decision maker for concocting their individual look. They can choose from a wide and varied range of separates and decide who they want to be. The look can vary from the mad flamboyance of the nineteenth century, through the erratic fashion statements of the twentieth century to the minimalism of the twenty first. Color being the brands forte, freefalling doesn't embrace a universal world of black and white and concentrates instead, on the vibrant colors of India with neutral colors being an accent.

The emphasis in freefalling is more on the cut and silhouette of the garment rather than in the embroideries. The detailing is in the contrast threadwork, accentuated seam lines and textural embellishments like rouching printing, painting and layering. These techniques which have their roots in the legendary wealth of Indian craftsmanship are contemporized to present a graphic sense of style. The result can be described as strikingly individual, which forms the very essence of freefalling.

One can see freefalling clothes in Kalaniketan and Kimaya, Ishna, Purple Porcupine and Ensemble in Mumbai, Marichika Hyderbad, Grasshopper and Ffolio in Bangalore, Cinnamon in Cochin, Sosas in Goa, Ogaan, and Ensemble in Delhi.

Freefalling has been exporting under the name Ollatin Exports to Dubai, Singapore, New York, United Kingdom, and Jeddha.

Freefalling Design Studio - Theme Of LIFW'05

The collection for LlFW 2005 is a play of power dressing with a satirical feminine silhouette juxtaposed with fitted constructed jackets.

Over elaborate skirts and military cargo pants and capris with layered fitted corsets, tops and jackets form the underlying silhouette of the entire range.

Detailing includes military pockets with, block prints and screen printing done with an elaborate play of frills and ruffles to bring a lot of cheek into the clothes.

Patch work and hand painting form interesting collages in parts of the garments, sometimes screamingly blatant and sometimes revealed subtly in a lining or a slit.
