A group of about eight militants tried to sneak into Indian Territory via Dehot Nallah in Balakote sector around 2030 hours yesterday and were challenged by troops.

Militants then opened fire forcing the troops to retaliate. During the exchange of fire, Pakistani troops also opened a heavy volume of fire, the sources said.

The heavy exchange of fire continued till 0100 hours and later it was intermittent till 0800 hours on Friday, the sources said, adding there was no casualty on our side.

A search operation were going on in the area.

Meanwhile, a few landmines exploded after fire spread near Deol post in Balakote area.

The fire, which had started from Khara post on PoK side yesterday, had later spread to this side of LoC, the sources said.
