Shanti (45) and Puja (14), the wife and daughter of naib subedar Ram Eqbal Sharma, were found strangled in their house in Veer Kuer Singh colony, close to the camp of army service corps, in Medical College police station limits of the town on Saturday, police said.

Their bodies were found by the neighbours who entered the house after the duo, the only occupants of the house in the colony inhabited mostly by serving and retired army personnel, did not come out of the house till late in the morning.

Police suspect robbery as motive for the twin murder.

Angry residents of the colony shouted slogans against the local administration for its failure to control crime in the town and were not allowing the police to remove the bodies for postmortem examination.

However, the police were able to take the bodies for autopsy only after District Magistrate Jitendra Srivastava intervened.
