ASEAN forum to focus on fight against terror

The forum will be attended by three hundred lawmakers from ten Southeast Asian nations.

The role of parliaments in the international counter-terrorism cooperation will be one of the many things on the agenda of the 27th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-parliamentary Organisation (AIPO).

The forum, which opened in the South Philippine city of Cebu on Tuesday, will be attended by three hundred lawmakers from ten Southeast Asian nations countries, as well as representatives from Russia, the EU, China, Japan, Canada, Australia, South Korea and other countries of the Asia-Pacific Region.

AIPO President and Speaker of the Chamber of Representatives of the Philippine Congress Jose de Vanecia made a report to spell out political aspects of the counter-terrorist cooperation of parliamentarians of the Asia-Pacific Region.

The ASEAN Inter-parliamentary Organisation was created in 1977 for forming a supranational institution of the European Parliament kind by 2015.
