Powerful and sophisticated are the words to describe Ashish and Smita Soni's dramatic new collection with strong silhouettes and a chic, pulled-together look.
The form was more subtle and interesting than average styles. The panels, like those of a girdle or corset, served to contour the body, emphasising the waist and thus effectively shrinking the torso. Judiciously placed panel o seam curved down the outer thigh, a nifty line under the breasts or a darker panel running down the rib cage, were tricks that played a significant part in this collection.
Models sporting 'bald' wigs showed clothes with dramatic silhouettes. The new season at 'As' (Soni's Prêt line) seems to be about figure hugging fits for modern day Aphrodites. The emphasis was on 'unisex' colours like charcoal, navy and black and complemented by the soft, nostalgic palette of dusty rose, powder blue and ivory. According to the brother-sister designer duo, they went in for a colour scape with a retro mood since the 'present is dicey and the future scary'. Graphic images added an extra zing to the line.
