Assam: Congress suspends 4 MLAs for anti-party activities

Assam Congress president Anjan Dutta on Sunday suspended four MLAs and issued show cause notice to five others for "anti-party activities", said an APCC spokesperson.

Assam Congress president Anjan Dutta on Sunday suspended four MLAs and issued show cause notice to five others for "anti-party activities", said an APCC spokesperson.

The four suspended Congress legislators are Jayanta Malla Barua, Pijush Hazarika, Pallab Lochan Das and Pradan Barua, APCC spokesperson Apurba Bhattacharjee told PTI. The five MLAs' served show cause notice are Abu Taher Bepari, Kripanath Mallah, Rajen Borthakur, Binanda Kumar Saikia and Bolin Chetia, Bhattacharjee said.

The five were asked to give their replies within 15 days from today, the spokesperson said. Action was taken against the nine Congress MLAs for their anti-party activities of welcoming their former party colleague and ex-minister Himanta Sarma at the Guwahati airport when he was returning to the city from Delhi to join the BJP, he added.
