The committee has demanded adequate security measures for the KESCo employees. After the beginning of present power crisis in the city and state, several incidents of attack on the KESCo employees and substations had been reported in the city. Such incidents had also been reported in other parts of the State.

Senior leader of committee’s Kanpur unit Puse Lal has expressed his concern over the increasing incidents of attack on substations and KESCo employees by the irate mob.

“Attack on substations and KESCo employees is a matter of grave concern for us. Power employees are not responsible for the ongoing power crisis in the city and state,” Lal said.

“Therefore, the senseless attack on the KESCo employees by the mob cannot be justified in any way,” Lal added.

Senior leader of the Powermen Joint Action Committee Shailendra Dubey also expressed concern over the attacks on power employees.

“Not a single mega watt of power has been generated in the State for the past 12 years, which has led to grave power crisis in the State,” Dubey stated.

The State government and the concerned district administration must ensure adequate security measures for power employees, Dubey added. He also demanded strict measures to check power pilferage in the State.

For the ongoing power crisis in the state, the committee has held the private sector responsible.

“None of the private companies which were entrusted the task of setting up power plants for generating 4000 MW of power in the State 12 years ago invested any money,” Puse Lal stated.

Shailendra Dubey asserted that for the past 12 years not a single mega watt of power had been generated in the State and during this time demand of power gone up by 3000 MW.

However, the committee welcomed the State government’s decision to set up new power plants in the public sector.

They have also demanded that the Anpara-C project must also be handed over to the public sector keeping in view the poor track record of private entrepreneurs.
