A NUMBER of important issues will be taken up by the Allahabad University (AU) finance committee that will meet, for the first time since AU?s re-attaining Central status, on Friday. An important issue likely to be decided at the meeting is the proposed creation of a post of an internal audit officer for better management of AU’s financial affairs and accounts.
The officer, as per the proposal, is to be appointed in the pay-scale of Rs 12000-18300 and is to help constant monitoring of AU accounts so that possibilities of objections during annual audit can be minimised.
A number of other important tasks like approval of annual accounts for 2004-05 and 2005-06 and revised estimates for 2006-07 and budget estimates for 2007-08 are also expected to be carried out by the committee.
The members will also lay down the procedure for the maintenance of accounts for ongoing research projects in various departments of AU. Besides looking into the status of the utilisation of grants for the non-plan works for 2006-07, the committee will also deliberate on the creation of posts under various categories and approve the new purchase procedure for the university.
Creation of a corpus fund, approval of the draft finance code of AU and sanction of house building advance for faculty members and other employees of the university are also believed to be on the meeting agenda.
Other important items like promotion policy in various categories, delegation of financial powers, steps for accounting of colleges, putting on record the financial position of the university with regard to cash, TDRs and bank accounts as on March 31, 2006 as well as AU staff position as on July 14, 2005, the day varsity re-attained the Central status, are also expected to be dealt with in the meeting.
