Allahabad University (AU) administration has sought help of District Magistrate (DM) to get the AU flats on Bank Road, illegally occupied by retired AU teachers and their kin, vacated. AU administration has also requested the DM to deduct the pending house rent from the pension of such teachers. About one dozen residential houses situated on Bank Road are illegally occupied by retired AU teachers and their kin.

AU administration has also requested the DM to deduct the pending house rent from the pension of such teachers.
About one dozen residential houses situated on Bank Road are illegally occupied by retired AU teachers and their kin. Despite several notices issued by the AU administration the occupants have refused to vacate these premises.
AU Registrar Prof US Rai presented a list of teachers illegally occupying the residential blocks on the Bank Road to the DM on June 5 and urged him to deduct the house rent from the pension of the enlisted teachers and get it deposited in the AU fund.
According to the list Prof SN Mishra of Law faculty who retired on June 30, 1990 has a maximum dues of Rs 5,06,845.24, Prof Mohan Awasthi who retired on June 30, 1989 has dues of Rs 2,29,225.75. Prof Fazle Imam who retired on June 2001 has dues of Rs 1,82,675.21 while Prof Sita Ram Tripathi has dues of Rs. 1,21,625.70.
According to AU's Estate Officer Mohd Suhail, no reply has been given to the notices issued to the dependants of the teachers residing illegally in these houses. Neeta Tripathi, daughter of Prof GP Tripathi of Medieval History is residing in the AU accommodation despite the death of Prof Tripathi who retired in 1988. Similarly, the house allotted to Prof SL Mishra of Zoology Department who died in the June 2001, is still occupied by his widow.
The houses allotted to Dr Rudrakant Mishra of Sanskrit Department who died in 2002 and Head of Sanskrit Department Dr VK Singh who died in 1999, are under the occupancy of their widows.
