Prof Harshe said it was a matter of great shame that Indian scientists and researchers were migrating to foreign countries and working for the welfare of that country. These scientists should remain in India and do some good research for an over all development of the country, he said.
He made an appeal to stop political interference in educational institutes.
Recruitment panels should not compromise with the selection of teachers as only a good teacher can produce good students, he added.
Guest of honour Dr RK Agarwal said till few years back teachers and students shared a very personal bond with each other. But this relation has deteriorated in recent times, he said.
MLN Medical College principal Dr PC Saxena gave the welcome address. He said the college started with a faculty of four teachers and the first batch of 50 students included 40 boys and 10 girls. Classes began on August 1, 1961.
Classes in clinical disciplines began in 1963. Since then this institution has grown tremendously in all directions, he said.
Last year was full of achievements. All the emergencies came under one roof.
The operation theatre and the intensive care units were modernised and equipped with the latest equipment. The blood component separation unit at the blood bank got the licence and dialysis unit was modernised. The cardiology department was also shifted to the new building and Rs 4 crore was sanctioned for a Cath lab, he informed.
Parents of overall toppers, including Dr Indira Mehrotra and Dr Ratnesh Kumar, also expressed their views on the occasion. Dr Naresh Chandra and Dr Geeta Jaiswal conducted the programme. Dr SR Singh was also present on the occasion.
