Seventh seeded Leander Paes and Czech partner Martin Damm took time to get their rhythm to beat Lukas Dlouhy and Pavel Vizner from Czechoslovakia in straight sets to sail into the third round of the Australian Open Men's doubles Championship on Friday.
It took the Indo-Czech pair 1 hour 22 minutes to chalk out the 7-5, 6-3 win over the unseeded pair.
They will now square off against the winners of the match between 11th seed Indo-South African pair of Mahesh Bhupathi and Wesley Moodie and French pair of Arnaud Clement and Michael Llodra.
Playing on court No 13, Paes and Damm faced stiff challenge from their unheralded rivals in the first set, who were just not ready to give in. Broken twice, the Czech pair hit back breaking the their opponents.
But experience stood in good stead for Paes and Damm and the duo won the set in 44 minutes.
Dlouhy and Vizner ran out of steam in the second set as Paes and Damm started dictating terms. The favourites held their serve and broke the Czechs once, on their way, to win the set and the seal the match.
