Indian tennis sensation Sania Mirza, seeded 32, scored a comfortable first round victory at the Australian Open Tuesday, maintaining the form that pushed her to new heights last year.

The 19-year-old, whose star has risen rapidly since she won a wild card and made the third round of the Australian Open in 2005, outplayed Bulgaria's Victoria Azarenka 7-6 (8/6), 6-2 in 81 minutes.

She will next clash with Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands, with the prospect of meeting number three seed Amelie Mauresmo of France in the third round.

Mirza, clothed all in black and playing with a heavily strapped left knee, had a phenomenal 2005, becoming the first Indian woman to win a WTA tour event and soaring more than 100 spots in the rankings to finish the year at 34.
