Autorickshaws go off streets

THOUSANDS OF auto rickshaws went off the streets following a strike call by Indore Shahar Autorickshaw Chalak Association, to protest against the decision of the State Government to issue new permits.

The grouse of the auto rickshaw drivers is that, as it is, there were too many rickshaws on the road and issuing of new permits would further ruin the economic condition of the rickshaw drivers.

The main effect of the rickshaw strike could be felt at the bus stands and railway station where hapless passengers had a tough time trying to reach home. Most of them were forced to use Nagar Seva buses and tempos, while some had to pay through their nose for the few rickshaws that were plying. The Tonga drivers also had a field day as they were in high demand throughout the day.
