B Kamal Kumar is new Himachal DGP

Following the Telephone taping controversy Himachal Pradesh government on Monday removed ID Bhandari from the post of director general of police(DGP) while B Kamal Kumar currently DGP, Home Guards and Civil Defense was appointed as successor of Bhandari.

Following the Telephone taping controversy Himachal Pradesh government on Monday removed ID Bhandari from the post of director general of police(DGP) while B Kamal Kumar currently DGP, Home Guards and Civil Defense was appointed as successor of Bhandari.

Bhandari now goes as DGP, Home Guards and Fire Services.

B Kamal Kumar was born at Andhra Pradesh. He did his masters of sciences degree in Bio-chemistry. He joined Indian Police Service in the year 1982.

During his career of 31 years in this premier national service, Kumar has remained at various posts. He handled very challenging assignments during this period. During this stint, he handled very challenging assignments.

Presently he has been working as additional director general cum commandant general home guard at Shimla.

Kumar has been decorated with police medal for Meritorious Service in the year 1999.

His predecessor ID Bhandari took over the reign as acting DGP of the state on July 29, 2012.

Bhandari had replaced DS Minhas, who was due to retire on August 31.

After the retirement of Minhas, he took over as the full-fledged DGP of Himachal.

Under the ensuing telephone taping controversy, Bhandari was replaced from his post.
