Two days after a first-year B Tech student of Manav Rachna University allegedly committed suicide, the police are yet to make any headway in the case.
The victim, Heena Kakkar, jumped from the third floor of the university’s hostel building on Monday. Her parents have lodged a police complaint against two boys — Abhishek and Vivek — accusing them of harassing and stalking her. Abhishek is a student of the university. Both the accused are absconding.
The police, however, have made an attempt to raid Abhishek’s house in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh.
“Our teams went to Aligarh and found that Abishek’s house was locked,” said Ratandeep Bali, station house officer, Surajkund. “We came to know Abishek fled the house after he came to know that the police were looking for him.”
Meanwhile, police traced the residential address of Vivek but it turned out to be fake. The accused had mentioned a fake address in the application for a cellphone connection, police said. All efforts are being made to arrest both the accused, Bali said.
Meanwhile, the victim’s family members have expressed unhappiness with the university’s handling of the incident. “They have alleged that the university staff informed them late about the incident,” Bali said.
On Tuesday, Dr MK Soni, dean of the university, said: “Had the girl or her parents informed us in advance about the harassment, we could have taken necessary steps to prevent her from taking such an extreme step.”
