Bad roads, filth hallmark of this ward

Looking back, after one year in office as the councillor of ward 10, Mangat Ram Bagri seems to have failed to strike a chord with the residents.
Though Bagri claims he has done a lot of work for his ward, residents beg to differ.
Laxman Vihar, the largest locality in this ward with a population of more than 20,000, is still waiting for water supplied by the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG). The residents here have been demanding canal water supply for long.
"We have been fighting since 1994 when the colony came up and nearly 20 years have gone by. Still, we do not have canal water supply. We are compelled to drink untreated groundwater," said DC Yadav, a resident.
Residents say that sewage, drainage, street lights and roads also are in a very poor shape in this area.
"The MCG seems to turned a deaf ear to our plight, along with our councillor. Why can't they see the unhealthy conditions we are living in," said a resident.
Several plans have been floated to fix the drainage, repair the railway road, install street lights on the stretch between Jay Cinema and the railway station. Estimates have already been approved by the government but work never began.
On the other hand, the ward councillor passes the buck to the MCG.
"I came across several constraints in doing development works due to the non-cooperative attitude of the MCG officials. I have been trying my best to push officials and make the ward better," said Bagri.
Talking about projects that have failed to take flight, Bagri said that the tenders are likely to be floated shortly and work will begin as soon as it is awarded to a contractor in a month's time.
He also said that a road is being constructed between Sector 4 and Laxman Vihar and sewage and water pipelines are being laid too.
"He is a grassroots worker who focuses on his work. However, he needs to expedite several proposals pending with the MCG," said Mohit Sharma, a resident of Laxman Vihar.
