The student leaders took out a motorcycle rally and shouted slogans against university administration. They forced the closure of all educational institutions and business establishments and burnt the effigy of vice-chancellor Prof Arun Kumar, demanding fresh date for union election.
The agitated students also pelted stones at Vijay Cinema and a nursing home near Ali Nagar. They damaged the signboard of a few shops that were opened in the morning.
They forced the traders to pull down their shutters.
They also decided to organise a relay hunger strike at the administrative building from tomorrow.
The student union leaders said if the university administration failed to announce a fresh date for the election, they would intensify their agitation.
