Bangkok Airways of Thailand is keen to set up an airport near Kaziranga National Park to promote the rhino homeland as 'Assam Safari', Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said on Saturday.

The Bangkok-based airlines had evinced interest in setting up the airport and other infrastructure for tourists during Gogoi's recent visit to Thailand, he told reporters.
The airways wanted to link Kaziranga with other national parks in the state and north-east region to promote the tour circuit as 'Assam Safari'. The government was ready to provide land for the airport if a formal proposal was received from the airline as it would boost tourism in the state, he said.
Tourism sector provided large employment opportunities, infrastructure development and economic well-being, he added.
