Long before the malls sprung up in the Capital and neighbouring Noida as well as Gurgaon, Ansal Plaza was ‘the place to go’ and to be seen at. The ‘Dubai-like’ ambience at Ansal Plaza drew crowds then and, despite the mushrooming shopping centres and malls all over the National Capital Region, it still does.
From the all-time favourite Shoppers’ Stop to the Tantra shop tucked in the corner of this sprawling shopper’s paradise, Ansal has a lot to offer. Once you enter the doors of Shoppers’ Stop (which is everyone’s pet entrance), the whiff of designer perfumes tease your senses.
You feel obliged to look around the floor, ending up visiting the first, the second… and eventually buying some item or the other! Shoppers’ Stop has a good collection of Indian ethnic wear for women. A little patience and some mix and match later, you will have a well co-ordinated outfit.
Their collection of home accessories — curtains, bedcovers, photo frames, kitchen ware and a lot more — are fashionable and at the same time reasonable. There’s Osho World on the ground floor, a must-visit for those bohemian knick-knacks. A tad expensive for some, but it doesn’t hurt to look.
If you are one for brands, Ansal houses nearly all the well-known brands, among them Weekenders, Adidas, Music World and Ferns ‘n’ Petals. If you are one of those for whom hunger is an after-effect of shopping, Geoffreys, Mirchi, Subway and the ever-present McDonald’s are not too far away.
Take a break and pamper your taste buds or opt for a take-away. For snacks, try the stalls selling yummy American corn or hot dogs. If you are not too happy with the way you look or want a change of image, Ansal might just be the place for you.
It houses quite a few beauty kiosks that promise a better-looking you if you are ready to enter the doors and brave the salesgirls. Ansal Plaza is a favourite with the young and the old. It is a place for serious shoppers as well as window shoppers.
The amphitheatre at Ansal Plaza is where harried shoppers and young philosophers flock to — to rest or discuss their future plans, as the case may be. For after all the shop-hopping, you will deserve a nice, good rest!
