Be friendly, despite differences

In the city with his wife to participate in the annual function of Diamond Jubilee Hostel— Abhivyanjana-2006, Khurana narrated anecdotes of some of his most memorable moments spent in Allahabad and also gave some advices to the student leaders to rise in the field.

"Allahabad is a city of culture and I cannot even dare to think what I would have become If I had not lived and studied in this holy city. It is here that I learnt first hand that irrespective of differences in political ideologies and allegiances to political parties, two people could still be friends and be amicable with each other," he said addressing the audience at DJ Hostel comprising of former and present inmates, teachers and invited guests. Khurana urged the student leaders not to hold grudges and differences in the heart just because they are on the opposite sides during a poll or on an issue. Citing an example to press home his point, Khurana informed that once as a youngster when he had lost his certificates and had come to Allahabad in this regard, he was invited and well-carted for by senior Congress leader Saligram Jaiswal despite the fact that he was a member of the RSS.

The inaugural session was presided over by Prof Bharat Singh. A number of teachers and former inmates of the hostel including Prof SD Dwivedi, Prof Hemant Dixit, Dr VK Rai, Rajneesh Rai, Anil Singh and Sanjay Gautam were present on the occasion.

Following the inaugural function of the three-day event, competitions including Antakshari, group dance and a fashion show besides a debate on 'Science and not politics responsible for world strife' were held on day one. Two-member teams from various institutions like ECC, IERT and hostels like Amarnath Jha, PC Bannerjee, Sir Sunderlal among others participated in the debate competition.
