The man widely considered the best claycourter in the world had never won a match on grass before this month but now, after reaching the final of the Ordina Open in the Netherlands last month and winning his first match at Wimbledon this week, he cannot wait to return.
"I am leaving this tournament sad because I lost, but very happy about the level I have played this past week," the Argentine told his website.
"No doubt I am more confident on grass and that will be very important for my future."
The player nicknamed 'El Mago' or 'The Magician' by his army of fans now has a 5-5 record on the slick surface.
On Friday he skidded out of Wimbledon with a 4-6 6-3 6-3 6-4 defeat by German Florian Mayer in the second round.
The Argentine was suffering a shoulder and arm injury but refused to make excuses.
"It is true that I wasn't able to serve as strong as I was serving and that I was not feeling confident every time I released my shots, but he play better and deserved to win," he said.
"I did my best, but he played at a consistent high level and he never gave me a chance to get back in the match."
