Beating to shoo away evil spirit?

In a bizarre case reported, a 14-year-old girl died after a tantrik beat her up mercilessly to drive away evil spirits. The incident occurred in Unnao district, about 45 kms from Lucknow, in Kusheri.
While Sub-Inspector YN Sharma, who has taken charge of the case states that girl died due to acute illness, Sunita's parents speak a different story. They have alleged that Vishwanath, a tantrik, tortured her by burning cigarettes on her body.
According to the girl's parents, Sunita was suffering from earache and her brother Raja Ram took her to a local Hakim who treated her for a long time but couldn't succeed. It was then the Hakim advised Ram to take the girl to a Tantrik.
Thereafter, the sorcerer asked Shanti, Sunita's mother, to bring liquor and Itra (scent) forPuja. He took Rs 400 as fee for treating Sunita.
After locking the girl in a room the Tantrik started hitting her ruthlessly. Later, he also banged the head of both mother and daighter numerous times till both started crying in pain.
When the mother woke up writhing in pain she found that her daughter had died.
Unnao police superintendent, Akshaya Kumar Singh, says it is still not clear whether or not the sorcerer abused the girl sexually. A manhunt has been launched to nab the wicked sorcerer.
