'Bebo is nice to me'
'Shahid' factor in Amrita's career is not an issue for Kareena.india Updated: Jan 04, 2007 21:29 IST
M.F. Hussain's latest muse Amrita Rao feels that it is the attitude that one carries which makes a difference than outfits. Find out what makes Miss Rao tick, talk..
Do you think girls like Poonam actually exist?
I’m sure they do. I believe writing a character like Poonam came naturally to Soorajji because he’s a genuinely wonderful person. There’s a part of Soorajji in Prem too. Besides, Vivah’s story took shape from a real-life incident that his father, Rajbabu, read in the newspapers, especially the climax. So why just Poonam, even other characters from Vivah are part of real life.
You share a good on-screen chemistry with Shahid Kapur. Any dirty glares from Kareena Kapoor?
I guess our on-screen chemistry works because we began our careers together with Ishq Vishq. And then we did a couple of more films together. As for Kareena, I have meet her a few times and she’s been nice to me. In fact, after she saw Vivah she asked people to watch it too. Besides, she’s the fourth generation of the Kapoor family and she continues to carry Raj Kapoor’s legacy forward. And I feel proud of that.
Youhave signed just one film. Why are you going slow on signing films?
I believe in doing diverse roles. I’ve been reading scripts and hearing story narrations. But I will say okay to only those which are suited for me. The roles have to be convincing enough. I’ll be signing David Dhawan’s film for UTV because he’s venturing into a new genre. Rensil D’Souza who wrote Rang De Basanti is scripting this film.
Do you regret doing films like Pyaare Mohan or debuting with Ab Ke Baras? By the way, where’s Arya Babbar?
I have no regrets. Pyaare Mohan did reasonably well. Besides, it was the first time a director repeated me. It was a good experience working with Indra Kumar again after Masti. I did Ab Ke Baras because I liked the script when I heard it. Apart from that, Arya is a good actor and he was doing theatre with his mother for some time. I believe he’s playing a pivotal role in Mani Ratnam’s Guru. So I’m sure it will work well for him.
Now that you’ve become M. F. Husain’s muse, do you see yourself as Madhuri Dixit’s envy?
Not at all. On the contrary, it’s a big high for me to be next on Husainsaab’s can vas after Madhuri Dixit. It’s an honour to be associated with such a famous artist.
