Bhadauria claimed five youths opened fire and the bullet smashed one of the windowpanes causing splinter injury in his neck. The motive behind the alleged attack was yet to be established.

However, the eyewitnesses denied to have heard any gunshot around the place.
The incident took place around 7 pm when Bhadauria left his official residence at LU premises along with his wife Rashmi. He was driving his car (UP 32 BM-1042) and had reached the Milani Park when he spotted five youths walking on the road. Bhadauria said he blew the horn signalling them to get away from the way.

But the youths ignored it.

As Bhadauria reached close to the youths, he started shouting at them. The group of local goons too engaged in verbal duel with him. The altercation turned violent as one of the youths reportedly opened fire. The bullet hit the
rear windowpane and Bhadauria suffered splinter injury.

While the goons fled the scene Bhadauria informed the control room and the Vice-chancellor about the incident. The cops rushed to the scene and searched for the assailants. They failed to trace them.

Bhadauria alleged that the five youths while running away had shouted that they were associates of a former LU students’ union office-bearer. Dr GS Bhadouria, a professor of Ancient Indian History Department, had first shot to limelight when several girl students of Tourism Studies levelled charges of ‘sexual harassment’ against him. The State Government had then conducted a CB-CID inquiry while LU set up a three member fact-finding committee following which he was sacked from the post of director of Tourism Studies.

On June 2000, Dr Bhadauria allegedly passed a lewd remark at Dr Nishi Pandey, a faculty member of English Department. A month later Executive Council suspended Dr Bhadauria and a disciplinary committee was formed to probe the charges. The EC later exonerated him in Dr Pandey’s case for want of evidence. Later, his name also figured in the murderous attack on an LU colleague, Dr Manoj Dixit following which Bhaduaria was arrested.

A LUTA office bearer has condemned the attack and has called for an emergent meeting on Friday.
