Bhargava was wife of Congress leader Luv Bhargava, who succumbed to gunshot wounds in a Delhi hospital on Saturday.

The police administration late last night suspended senior sub-inspector DC Dubey and sub-inspector KM Rai of Hazratganj police station for "failing to act promptly in investigating and solving the case", a police spokesman said on Monday.

The government had already directed the Lucknow zone Inspector-General of Police to conduct an inquiry into the case, he said.

Meher Bhargava was shot by some youths outside her house close to the SSP's residence here on February 28 after she had objected to the eve-teasing of her daughter-in-law.
