Bihar elections: 70 file papers for first phase

The candidates include RJD's Shobha Kant Mandal and Suresh Mehta. 61 constituencies go to the polls on Oct 18.

Around 70 candidates, including RJD leaders Shobha Kant Mandal and Suresh Mehta, filed their nominations on the penultimate day of filing papers on Thursday for 61 constituencies going to the polls in the first phase in Bihar on October 18.

State election office sources said while Mandal submitted his papers for Pirpainti assembly constituency, Mehta filed his nomination for Aurangabad.

CPI-ML leader Raja Ram Singh Obera was among others who also submitted their papers.

October 3 is the last date for withdrawals of nominations.

Meanwhile, 12 candidates submitted their papers on the second day of filing of nominations for the 69 constituencies going to poll in the second phase in the state on October 26.
