In 2000, a group of robbers had intercepted and looted Rs 5 lakh from the cash van of the Bareta branch of State Bank of India in Katihar district. Bank guard Dinesh Ram had been shot dead by the robbers when he tried to resist.

A case had been filed in Falka Police Station and the MLA’s name came up during the investigation. Katihar superintendent of police Asgar Imam said the accused surrendered on Monday in the court of Katihar sub-divisional judicial magistrate.

An MLA from Chhatapur constituency in Supaul district of north Bihar, Bablu won assembly elections in 2005 and 2010 on JD(U) ticket despite being on the wanted list of the police.

He said is believed to be ‘ardent supporter’ of former MP Anand Mohan, who is currently serving life sentence in connection with December 1994 murder of the then Gopalganj district magistrate G Krishnaiah.
