Approaching Ardh Kumbh has provided an opportunity to the Centre to present a few of the memorable performances by the renowned artistes of the country before the audience. "The budget sanctioned by the government to the centre this year is Rs 35 lakh for organising cultural events. Thus we have decided to invite renowned artistes to our show," said Bhagwan Shanker, director of NCZCC, Allahabad.
Birju Maharaj will present kathak-based ballet on the occasion. Girija Devi, classical singer, is likely to steal the hearts of many through her soulful presentations. Sharda Sinha, a known name in the field of Bhojpuri singing, is also on the list. Dancing diva Prerna Shrimali will present kathak. Odyssi dancer Geeta Mahalik will enthrall the audience with her graceful dancing gestures. And last but not the least is Pandavani singer Teejan Bai whose stage show is counted amongst the popular events taking place in the city for the past some years.
These artistes will perform for a week each day. Local artistes have not been given much preference this time.
"There will also be the staging of Ras Lila and Ram Lila each day during the 15-day event. The artistes for Ras Lila are being invited from Mathura and those for presenting Ram Lila will arrive from Pilibhit. These two events will be held late in the afternoon and they will be followed by the performance of renowned artistes late in the evening," said Bhagwan Shanker.
There will also be a painting camp for 10 days which will be attended by two artists from each of the seven cultural centres across the country.
The paintings will be based on folk theme, but space will also be given to portraits and other styles.
"Out of the total budget sanctioned to us, half the amount will surely be spent on infrastructure," added the director.
'Chalo man Ganga Yamuna teer' is slated to be held from January 9 to January 23.
