NATIONAL SPOKESMAN of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Prakash Javdekar on Thursday said that the Union government should immediately roll back hike in petrol and diesel prices in the interest of the common man. He said the price hike was completely unjustified.

He said that the government should also systematically and gradually cut down various taxes being levied by it on the fuel so as to save the people from the burden of the ever increasing prices of petro products.
“After taking the initiative, the Union government should then call a meeting of all the chief ministers to convince them also to reduce the state taxes being levied on the petro products. Only then burden on the common man will be reduced considerably,” Javdekar said while addressing media persons.
Participating in two-day BJP Kisan Morcha’s state working committee meeting, Javedkar said that if the government fails to rollback the hike, the people would end up spending Rs 10,000 crore from their pockets in an year. “Today Indians are forced to buy the costliest petro products in the world even when the purchasing power parity is taken into consideration,” he informed.
Over the rising incidents of attacks on the members of the Hindu community in Jammu and Kashmir, Javdekar said terrorist outfits were determined to drive out Hindus from the State. “BJP has launched an All-India nine-day protest in this regard and our activists are forcing the government to take action against terror merchants and provide security to people. As part of the protest campaign, our activists will court arrest in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Uttaranchal on Friday as well as in UP and Goa on June 14. The protests will continue till June 15,” he added.
Commenting on the prospects of his party in the forthcoming Assembly elections in UP, Javdekar said that the party was in the process of strengthening itself and would stage a comeback in the State. “We have a support base in the State and are confident that the people will vote for BJP wanting peace, security and progress. The Mulayam government has lost its moral right to stay in the power due to the deteriorating law and order condition and failure to provide even basic amenities to the people,” he said.
