Singh, who was also the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister in a release issued from Delhi on Thursday strongly protested the reported statement of Advani comparing Varun with JP and Vajpayee and demanded an apology from him on the issue.

However, BJP’s national secretary Prabhat Jha in a statement in Bhopal on Friday claimed that its Pilibhit candidate Varun Gandhi is “more educated and cultured” than the Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi and criticised Singh for demanding an apology from Advani on the issue.

“It reflects his (Singh’s) narrow mentality and parochial thinking,” Jha said.

Jha said that Congress is afraid of Varun as it fears that his entry into politics may turn the political scenario into Varun versus Rahul.

He said that since the Congress failed in projecting Rahul on the lines of Bapu (Mahatma Gandhi) and his concern for Dalits turned out to be merely a gimmick, therefore the party is more worried about the future of their youth leader.
