The BJP on Thursday promised efforts to stop the centre's move to convert the JIPMER into an autonomous institution, formation of a special economic zone in the union territory and efforts to hold civic polls.

Releasing the BJP manifesto for the territorial assembly polls in Pondicherry, senior party leader S Tirunavukkarasar said it would go it alone in all the 30 constituencies.
The manifesto said that if elected to power, BJP would implement programmes to increase the per capita income of the people and take steps to make Pondicherry a developed state.
It also promised among others, health care services, particularly in rural areas, reservation of jobs in private sectors and modernisation of textile mills.
