Bharatiya Janata Party MP Yogi Adityanath on Thursday issued an ultimatum to the State Government to improve power supply and take effective steps to combat Japanese Encephalitis within four days.
He said if adequate steps were not taken, the saffron brigade would intensify its ongoing agitation.
The MP expressed these views as thousands of saffron brigade activists took out a procession and staged a dharna at the divisional commissioner’s office in protest against the “insensitive attitude” of the State Government towards the large number of deaths caused by JE in eastern UP.
The activists were also led by local MLA Dr RMD Agrawal, MLC Dr YD Singh and others. Yogi Adityanath said though the disease had claimed 574 lives at the medical college alone and 2000 in eastern UP, the State Government was yet to wake up. He criticised the mysterious ‘silence’ of the chief minister.
Adityanath asked the people to express their anger through ballots in the upcoming municipal corporation elections. Local MLA RMD Agrawal accused the State Government of being biased against the people of eastern UP. Though Rs 130 crore was allocated for the development of Saifai, eastern UP was neglected, he said.
Former cabinet minister Shiv Pratap Shukla said the saffron bridge would launch a campaign against the State Government. Criticising the government, MLC Dr YD Singh said poor power supply aggravated the problems of doctors. He condemned the alleged “anti-Purvanchal” attitude of the chief minister.
Former BJP district president Upendra Dutt Shukla, former MLA Sant Prasad, Bechan Ram and others warned the government to stop playing politics with lives of people.
