THE BJP MP Ravi Shanker Prasad said here on Saturday that an uniform civil, if introduced, would give more power to women and help the nation develop by leaps and bounds.

Prasad made these remarks at a seminar on Uniform Civil Code organised by Dayanand College of Law. Prasad said the importance of Uniform Civil Code had been expressed thrice by the apex court in different judgments. However, no decision on the issue could be taken because of vote politics, he added.

Justice AK Yog of the Allhabad High Court, who was the chief guest at the function, spoke for the need of an uniform civil code. He said, “On the pretext of religion or other issues, the introduction of uniform civil code should not be opposed.” Justice Yog said the uniform civil code had its importance and its implementation would definitely help the nation develop.

He also voiced concern over the on-going criminalsation of politics and said that in many cases, law-makers had played the role of law-breakers. He added: “It is not good for the country.”

Others who were present at the function were MLC and secretary to Daynand Siksha Sansthan Jagenra Swarup, principal of DC Law Nandini Upadhya.
