BJP stages dharna outside DC's office over challan against Nahan MLA
Lashing out at the ruling Congress government for implicating BJP workers in false cases, several workers and leaders of the party took out a procession on the Mall Road and staged a dharna outside the deputy commissioner's office in protest against the filing of challan against former health minister and sitting party legislator of Nahan Rajeev Bindal here on Wednesday.
Raising slogans, leaders, including Kasauli MLA Rajeev Sehjal, Arki legislator Govind Ram Sharma, zila parishad chairperson Sheela Kumari, Solan municipal council vice-chairman Pawan Gupta and others said if the Congress government was committed to eliminate corruption from public life, chief minister Virbhadra Singh should order a high-level probe to bring out the truth before the public in the infamous “chit recruitment scam”, committed during the previous regime of the Congress.
Notably, the vigilance and anti-corruption bureau (ACB) had filed a chargesheet against Bindal and 25 other accused in the recruitment scam, committed when Bindal was president of the Solan Municipal Council during late 90s, on July 17 in the court of Solan special judge.
The case against Bindal and others was registered after special audit of the council that had pointed out gross irregularities and tampering of records during the recruitment process of Class 4 and 3 employees, including drivers, key men and meter readers of the council.
Bindal was indicted in the scam after the vigilance and ACB had registered a case and found him guilty during the investigation process in 2006.
Addressing the workers, leaders alleged that developmental works had come to a halt ever since the Congress assumed power in the state and BJP workers and leaders were being implicated in false cases.
Vigilance and ACB were being misused to throttle the voice of political opponents while no welfare schemes had been launched for farmers, unemployed youth and employees.
The confiscation of land, allotted to Baba Ramdev at Sadhupul, and filing of chargesheet against Bindal after 17 years that was denied by the then Vidhan Sabha speaker is enough indication that Virbhadra Singh's government was acting out of political vendetta to crush its detractors.
