OVER 37 BHARATIYA Janata Party (BJP) workers on Thursday resigned from the primary membership of the party, giving a severe jolt to its district unit.

They quit the party protesting against the alleged arbitrary attitude of an MP towards the party workers. Talking to media persons, the angry workers said that the MP adopted a biased attitude towards party workers during ticket distribution for corporator and mayoral posts.
Hinting towards local MP Yogi Adityanath, they said that the state unit of the party succumbed to the pressure of the MP and gave the party ticket for mayoral post to a candidate who had contested the election against the official candidate of the party in last election.
They said the party leadership rejected the list comprising the names of some suitable candidates for the post of mayor. This clearly showed that the party leaders bowed down to the pressure of only one person, ignoring the interests of thousands of workers.
Expressing his anguish one of the former BJP leaders said that his feelings were hurt. Thus, he and all other angry BJP workers decided to support Congress candidate Ramesh Gupta in the mayoral elections.
It is to be noted that Ramesh Gupta’s name was also triggered in the panel sent by the party district unit and Gupta had switch over his loyalty from BJP and joined Congress.
These leaders also blamed that Hindu Yuva Vahini activists were preferred in allotment of the tickets for various wards and devoted BJP workers were ignored. Sources said Hindu Yuva Vahini candidates had managed to get the ticket at 45 wards while BJP candidates were contesting only in 25 wards.
Prominent among those who had resigned from the party are former corporator Vishwanath Gupta, divisional president of BJP youth Shiv Chand Pandey, Vivekanand Tiwari, Surendra Paswan, Vidyawati Gupta, former corporator Sharvan Pandey and Sandhya Pandey secretary of Gorakhpur division of the party, Umesh Chand Saini, Vaidya Nath Prajapati, Jai Kusum Kannaujia, Abdul Ghani, Raghvendra Kumar Singh and others.
