Himachal Pradesh's Forest Minister Ram Lal Thakur quit on Tuesday after losing the Hamirpur Lok Sabha by-election to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by 80,059 votes.

Polling took place on Saturday in Hamirpur after Suresh Chandel of BJP was thrown out of parliament with 10 others for allegedly taking money to raise questions in the house.
The Hamirpur seat is spread over Hamirpur, Una and Bilaspur districts, in the lower hills of Himachal Pradesh.
