The explosion took place at around 10.45 pm at Nilalong, about five kms from Karbi Anglong district headquarters Diphu.

The engine of the B G Express, travelling from Jorhat to state capital Guwahati, was partially damaged in the blast and the driver of the train injured, police said. The injured man has been admitted to a nearby hospital. No passenger has suffered injuries, they added.

The track has also been damaged and railway traffic on the line has been halted after the explosion.

The identity of the militants involved was yet to be ascertained, but Karbi Longri National Liberation Front (KLNLF) insurgents have been targeting railway tracks and security personnel in the area for the past one month.
