Crude bomb exposions rocked the Allahabad University (AU) campus consecutively for the second day of the new session on Tuesday.

Miscreants hurled a crude bomb at the KPUC gate and followed it by exploding another crude bomb by hurling it at the Senate hall building— hardly 50 metres from the Vice-Chancellor's office located in the same building.

The incidents combined with tension between inmates of Holland Hall hostel and the KPUC hostel and accompanied by agitating students disrupting the UG admissions at the Pravesh Bhawan for over an hour this morning ensured that the new as well as the old students spent the day in terror and fear.

Sources inform that trouble had been brewing between the inmates of Holland Hall hostel and the KPUC hostel over comments passed to a few girls on the campus a few days back. Inmates of the two hostels had even clashed over the incident.

This morning, a large number of Holland Hall inmates are believed to have gathered near the KPUC hostel and hurled stones at the hostel inmates. A crude bomb too was exploded by the miscreants. Following the explosion, cops rushed to scene that led to the students fleeing from the spot. However, within a few minutes, a crude bomb was hurled at the wall of the Senate hall building by unidentified miscreants that led to panic among the students.

The crude bomb was so powerful that some of the metal pieces and iron rippets flew up to the veranda of the AU Registrar's Office located on the first floor of the administrative building opposite the Senate hall building. Work at office counters came to a standstill as students fled from the spot in panic. Within moments, AU Proctor Prof Jata Shankar along with members of his Proctorial team and backed by cops reached the spot. However, by then the miscreants had escaped. On being contacted, Prof Jata Shankar said, "I rushed to the Senate hall building following the report of the crude bomb explosion near the Senate hall building. No one has been injured. We are trying to find out the motive as well as the identity of the miscreants behind the incident," he said.

Proctor said that the tension between the inmates of the Holland Hall hostel and the KPUC hostel cannot be ruled out as a cause behind the two days of incidents on the varsity campus. The incidents have once again raised the question over the security in the university campus as the crude bomb was exploded right under the nose of policemen deployed on the campus. It is to be recalled that a similar incident of crude bombs being exploded was also reported on the first day of the new session on Monday. Some miscreants had reportedly hurled two crude bombs and also fired a few gun shots in the air by country-made pistols near the AU student union gate.
