According to information, the vehicles were withdrawn from five assistant health officers, 14 assistant engineers of Water Works Department, Establishment officer and a security officer.

There were several complaints that the officials who were not doing the field job were in possession of four-wheelers. It was alleged that some officials were using more than one vehicle. Following such complaints, the MiC decided that the vehicles be withdrawn from the officials, who are not in the field posting.

Earlier, the MiC had also decided that only Indica cars should be hired. Following the decision, the BMC removed other type of vehicles due to their higher rentals. Most of the BMC officials are using the private vehicles. The BMC administration had decided that it would not purchase new vehicles like cars and jeeps. So, the private vehicles were engaged.
