Bollywood in DU
A look at how Bollywood inspired life on the campus.
The year 2009 saw students of Delhi University religiously following certain trends inspired by Bollywood. HT City gets you some of the favourite trends Bollywood made popular with Delhi students.

Kat pants
The new style icon for girls, Katrina Kaif, made checked three quarter pants, worn by her in the movie New York, popular with girls of Delhi University. Shops in Janpath, Kamla Nagar Market and Sarojini Nagar sold these pants like hot cakes after it became a rage.
Gandhigiri
The teachers at Delhi University, too, have succumbed to the temptations of Gandhigiri — protesting by being polite. It was made popular in the movie Munnabhai MBBS. This month the Delhi University Teachers Association protested against the implementation of the semester system and biometric attendance system by using banners that said, “DU, VC (Vice Chancellor) get well soon.” They also carried red roses.
Shahid Kapoor’s lisp
The very ‘sexy’ Shahid Kapoor became the ‘fexy’ Charlie in the movie Kaminey. His lisp in the movie, where S was pronounced as F, became the hottest lingo of DU students. Soon the popular slang ‘saala’ became ‘faala’.
Emotional Atyachar
It was originally a song in the Abhay Deol movie Dev D. But the term Emotional Atyachar (torture in Hindi) has become popular with DU students. For instance, if the lecture got too boring, it was emotional atyachar for them. The possessive girlfriend, too, was often accused of doing emotional atyachar.
Masakali masakali
Sonam Kapoor’s look in the song Masakali, in the film Delhi 6, became a rage and soon anarkali kurtas, silver jewellery, and kolhapuris she had wore become popular with girls in Delhi University. No more was the ethnic look reserved for special festivals and occasions.
