A disaster was averted when a powerful bomb was recovered from a cinema hall in Assam's Goalpara district when a film show was in progress, official sources said on Wednesday.

A disaster was averted when a powerful bomb was recovered from a cinema hall in Assam's Goalpara district when a film show was in progress, official sources said on Wednesday.

The bomb was noticed on Thursday night by a member of the audience inside the hall at Ambari in West Goalpara during the interval.

Following it, hall authorities halted the screening of the film and informed the police, who along with an army bomb defusing squad took away the bomb.

The bomb was defused early on Wednesday morning, the sources said.

Investigations were on to identify those responsible for planting the bomb in the hall, the sources added.
