The blast appeared to have been caused by a roadside bomb, said Flight Lieutenant Euan Downie, a spokesman for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).

Interior ministry spokesman Yousuf Stanizai said the bomb in Kabul's northern Kharikhan district appeared to have been fixed to a bicycle.

He blamed it on the "enemies of Afghanistan", a phrase often used by Afghan authorities when referring to the Taliban militia that was ousted from government in late 2001.
