Bosses away, LU in a mess

NOTHING SEEMS to be going right for Lucknow University (LU) authorities. Neither the fate of proposed 55-odd courses is clear nor are out the results of majority of undergraduate and post-graduate courses. To make things even worse is that both Vice-Chancellor RP Singh and Pro V-C RS Yadav are out of town.

Hence, virtually there is no senior official in the city to take any decision on several important students’ interest issues that need to be sorted out before the beginning of the new academic session. And now when the admissions for UG and PG are about to begin their absence from the campus is creating a lot of confusion and uncertainty.

The state of confusion is that every now and then officials overlooking the admission work are coming out with contradictory statement.

First, they said that the last date of submission of PG forms would not be extended but on Monday following pressure from student leaders the last date of submission of PG forms was extended till June 30.

The important pending matters related to new courses and non-declaration of results has left the candidates seeking admission and those studying at LU in quandary. Those seeking admissions alleged that neither there is any mention of new courses in the prospectus nor there are officials who could answer their queries.

“Every now and then newspapers publish about the proposed new courses but there are none to inform us about the fate and content of these courses. Also, there is no mention of these new courses in the UG/PG admissions forms. All these make things difficult for those who intend to seek admissions at LU,” they said.

On the other hand, B.Sc final year students are getting restless as their results have not been declared yet. They claimed that since their results are not yet declared so they are finding it difficult to make a decision in which subject they should seek admission in PG. “Unless we get to see our marksheet we cannot make any choice,” said a B.Sc final year student.

Those who are close to V-C said, “Some of the proposed courses may start from this year. Once these courses get passed from all the bodies, we would formally announce them. Then forms for specific courses would be made available and interested candidates may fill them.”

However, there are none who intend to make comment on the frequent overseas trip of the V-C to foreign soil at a time when the admission work is under progress and the fate of new courses hangs in balance. But senior teachers are unhappy as they wonder why Raj Bhawan is not initiating any step to clip frequent flight of the V-C.
