Sujit Kumar, a class III student, was trying to perform a stunt while he was alone at home in a middle class locality in the state capital.

The police said a preliminary investigation suggests that Sujit died accidentally. His body has been sent for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.

The police said they suspect Sujit tried the stunt when he was playing with a rope alone at home.

His mother, Ram Pyari, a domestic help, was away at work while his elder brothers had gone to visit a relative in town. His father does not live with the family.

Sujit’s family members found his body hanging at the doorstep with a rope around his neck around 11.30 am.

His mother and brothers told the police that Sujit would often try stunts shown on reality TV shows and had been reprimanded for it by his mother several times.

This suggested that he died attempting some kind of stunt, the police said.

The family does not have a television set but Sujit used to watch stunts shown on TV at their neighbour’s house.

Sarojini Nagar Station Officer Abhishek Siroi said Sujit's family had reported to the police that he had hanged himself to death accidentally.

Further investigations are however on, Siroi said.
