A 10-year-old boy, Itwari, sustained bruises when members of the Gujjar community tied him to a horse with a rope and dragged him on the Jalandhar-Pathankot road for preventing the animal from entering a field where his parents were working today.
SSP Arpit Shukla said a daily diary report (DDR) was registered instead of an FIR as both parties had reached a compromise. He said the boy’s family insisted “the incident happened accidentally”.
Sources, however, said the family of the boy, Itwari, was guarding the field of nambardar Lakhbir Singh when he prevented the horse from entering the field near Raowali village.
Enraged, members of the Gujjar community tied him to the horse and dragged him on the Jalandhar-Pathankot road. Some factory workers passing by rescued the child, who was admitted to the Jalandhar Civil Hospital.
Medical Superintendent Ranbir Singh said the boy sustained minor injuries and his condition was stable. “The bruises on his back, wrists and the back of the head clearly show he was dragged on the road,” he said.
The boy was discharged from hospital in the evening.
